uPVC Front and Back Door Scheme Called by Alliance

Homeowners in Newcastle rejoice! The Newry Times reports that Patrick Clarke, a Newcastle Alliance Councilor is calling on the Minister for Social Development Nelson McCausland to provide additional financial funding to implement a scheme similar to uPVC double glazing window replacement. The new scheme calls for the replacement of front and back doors in housing executive properties to uPVC front and back doors.

This move by the Newcastle Councilor was prompted by the immediate need to include uPVC front and back external door replacement with the current uPVC double glazing replacement scheme. Clarke has already written the minister urging the consideration of his proposal.

In an interview with the Newry Times, Councilor Clarke voiced his concern: “This is causing some concern to housing executive tenants due to the possible loss of insulation and energy due to the age of some of these front and back doors, as well as wear and tear.”

“It would have made more sense from a practical point of view when contractors were on site replacing windows to uPVC double glazing to complete the front and back doors as well leaving older properties full[y] insulated and householders saving on heating and energy costs.”

The councilor wants to see a similar scheme in effect knowing that the uPVC double glazing window replacement scheme is “making a real difference to saving energy costs in housing executive properties.”

The councilor also reports that there are constituents in Dundrum and Newcastle that contacted him about their front and back doors not being replaced with uPVC.  Clarke further added that the Housing Executive said they intend to complete uPVC front and back door replacement of current front and back doors along with double glazing to all housing executive properties pending the release of finding by the DSD Minister.
